SCRIPTURE READING: 1 SAMUEL 30: 1-20

FOCUS: “And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;” (1 Samuel 30: 1)

MEMORY VERSE: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” (2 Corinthians 6: 17)

It is important to observe that Ziklag was a gift to David from the Philistine King (see 1 Samuel 27 vs. 5-6). David was being pursued by King Saul, and he chose to enter into an alliance with the Philistines. Notice that the Philistines were enemies of God and enemies of Israel. The Philistines were people that David should ordinarily not do business with, but they gave him somewhere to stay. David entered into an ungodly connection.

Friend, you may not entirely avoid interacting with men who do not love God, but as much as possible, run away from entering into an ungodly alliance. Be intentional to stay away from every connection that will disconnect you from the will of God. Be intentional to avoid any connection that will put you in conflict with the God you serve. Be intentional to walk away from every connection that will make you sin against God.

The gift of Ziklag to David was an opportunity to stay safe. Ziklag was some sort of a comfort zone that kept David away from harm, but it also eventually became the place where all he had was either taken away or burnt. Don’t allow your destiny to be wrongly located, otherwise, you just might lose everything you were struggling to preserve. Don’t allow the enemy to give you survival options. Don’t tag along with darkness.

Review your connections. Are there people who are exposing you to sin? Are there relationships that are putting you in conflict with God? Are there connections that are giving you comfort but robbing you of who you should be? Are there people who are pushing you into taking positions that God would not have you take? If they will make you hurt God and limit your destiny, simply walk away. Lose ungodly connections before you get lost.

When the chips are down, nothing matters as much as being who God destined you to be. Don’t be counted amongst them that sought ungodly connections and ended up losing everything.
