SCRIPTURE READING: 1 SAMUEL 17: 1-53

FOCUS: “And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.” (1 Samuel 17: 49)

MEMORY VERSE: “For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.” (Romans 9: 28)

In our Focal Scripture, when David fired his stone at Goliath’s forehead, Goliath fell to the ground. In subsequent verses, David took a sword and cut off the head of Goliath. In bible times, victory was not complete until the head of the enemy was cut off. So David needed to cut off the head of Goliath for victory to be complete. So when Goliath fell, it was not quite complete victory. More needed to be done for victory to be complete.

Friend, there are times when all that has happened is that your ‘Goliath’ has fallen; there are times when what you see is a mere symptom of progress, but not complete progress; there are times when you hit targets, but the real result is yet to come; there are times when all you have done is to gain a preliminary sign of progress, yet the real progress is yet to come; there are times when your ‘Goliath’ is down, but the head is intact.

Take your efforts a step further by completing your victory. Don’t just celebrate that your ‘Goliath’ has gone down; celebrate that you have cut off the head of your ‘Goliath’. Don’t just celebrate mere accolades without true results. Don’t just celebrate mere milestones and forget to complete the journey you started. Take steps to complete your assignment. Take steps to complete your victory. Do all you need to do.

Notice that the battle did not fully tilt in favour of Israel until David cut off the head of Goliath. There are battles that will not tilt in your favour until you complete the mission of cutting off the head of your ‘Goliath’. There are new seasons you will not break into until you complete the missions in your current season. There are successes you will not record until you begin to complete your assignments. Completely decimate your ‘Goliath’.

Don’t just celebrate that ‘Goliath’ has fallen. Celebrate that you have done all you need to do for ‘Goliath’. Don’t stop at incomplete victories. Play your part to complete your victory.
