SCRIPTURE READING: 1 SAMUEL 30: 1-20

FOCUS: “And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;” (1 Samuel 30: 1)

MEMORY VERSE: “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” (Isaiah 30: 21)

It is instructive to note that David and his men had gone to join the King of the Philistines to fight against Israel; and when they were asked to leave the battle field, they journeyed home only to find that their wives and children had been taken away and their city burnt. They went to chase after victory in the battle field, and they lost what they left at home. They went to chase what was unimportant, and they lost what was important.

Friend, as you chase after your goals on daily basis, ensure that you are not chasing after what is unimportant and losing grip of what is important. Ensure that you are not trading your treasures for nothing. Ensure that you do not lose who you are to whatever you are chasing after. Ensure that what you are chasing after is not making room for you to lose what matters to you. Ensure that you are not a losing chaser.

David and his men were warriors, but they went to fight the wrong battle, against the children of Israel (See 1 Samuel 29). They went to use their capacity wrongly, and it backfired on them. As you glory in your capacity and abilities, be sure to avoid using your capacity for the wrong assignments. Don’t use what you have in you, against the interest of heaven. Don’t allow yourself to be led into the wrong pathway.

Wisdom demands that you do not chase after what is unimportant whilst losing grip of what is important. Wisdom demands that you do not use your God given capacity for what will not advance your destiny. Wisdom requires that you do not lose yourself to what you are chasing. Wisdom requires that you do not lose what you already gained while chasing for what even God Himself has not ordained for you.

Don’t be counted amongst those who would lose treasures whilst chasing shadows. Let God show you what to chase after and what not to chase after.
