SCRIPTURE READING: EXODUS 1: 15-21

FOCUS: “And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.” (Exodus 1: 21)

MEMORY VERSE: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5: 16)

Our Focal Scripture speaks to the reason why the Hebrew midwives refused to kill the male children of the Hebrew women. The midwives feared the Lord, and this fear of God was the reason why they chose to deal fairly and kindly with the Hebrew women whose children they were to help bring forth. They feared God, and it impacted on how they treated mere strangers. They feared God, and they did right to others.

Friend, can it be said that your walk with God has impacted on your relationship with people? Can it be said that your market place behavior is positively influenced by your walk with God? Can it be said that your value system is a reflection of your walk with God? Can it be said that your treatment of people around you is a reflection of your walk with God? Can it be said that you became a vessel of mercy to people around you?

Notice that the midwives were not necessarily positively inclined to the Hebrew women. They simply feared God, and it determined their behavior to these Hebrew women. Their walk with God drove their behavior in the marketplace. Even if you are not positively inclined to people, treat them the way God would have you treat them. Love them the way God would have you love them. Let your walk with God lead your behavior towards men.

You embarrass the kingdom when your public behavior and your walk with God cannot be reconciled. You embarrass God when people encounter you but cannot feel the love of God through you. You embarrass God in the marketplace when people cannot readily see your good works and glorify God who is in heaven. You were not raised to love God but treat men badly. You were not raised to misrepresent the kingdom.

Be circumspect in your interactions with other men. May it never be said that people encountered negativity through you.
