NO SPITE

SCRIPTURE READING: GENESIS 16: 1-15

FOCUS: “And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.” (Genesis 16: 4)

MEMORY VERSE: “Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.” (Proverbs 19: 29)

Our Focal Scripture speaks of how Hagar conceived and began to despise her mistress. It was Sarah who gave Hagar to Abraham so that she could bear children by her; but the moment she conceived, she began despising her mistress. The moment God did for her what He was yet to do for her mistress, she lost her manners and began to despise the very one she should honour. What God gave her made her despise another.

Friend, all through 2026, never spite or look down on anyone because El Roi did for you what He is yet to do for them. Never disrespect anyone because of what you freely received from God. Never look down on anyone because of the mercies of El Roi that gave you what you did not even deserve. Never despise anyone because you are now ahead of them in certain achievements. Never let the favour of God on your life make you spite a man.

Hagar was a mere maid, she was a servant in the house of Abram, she was a maid to Sarai, but she had the privilege of conceiving when her mistress was still barren. Sometimes, God will give you the privilege of conceiving as a maid when your ‘mistress’ is still barren. Sometimes, God will grant you the favour of achieving what those who are more qualified than you are yet to achieve. Never let that get into your head in 2026.

Notice that eventually, Sarah had her own son Isaac. So, what Hagar despised Sarah for, eventually became a testimony to Sarah. The same things you want to despise people for, El Roi will make it happen for them at some point, without consulting you. The things you want to laugh at people for, they will soon have it and your laughter will be overtaken by events. Would you still mock them if you knew they were about to be blessed?

Be thankful for the mercies and favours that El roi shows you; be kind to those who are yet to receive what you have received. Never mock anyone because they are yet to receive what you have received.
