SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 23: 1-6
FOCUS: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” (Psalm 23: 4)
MEMORY VERSE: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4: 4)
In our Focal Scripture, the psalmist speaks of how he fears no evil whilst walking through the valley of the shadow of death, because the Lord is with him. The psalmist inferred that there is no fear in the valley because the Lord is with him. He inferred that because of the Lord that is with him, what he ordinarily should be afraid of, he is no longer afraid of it. He inferred that because the Lord is with him, he has nothing to fear.
Friend, I am aware that ordinarily, there are things you would need to be wary of. There are situations and circumstances that are not within your control that you may be expected to worry about. There are changes in society that you need to worry about. There are battles that people like you should ordinarily be scared of. There are roadblocks that people would expect you to be afraid of. There are valleys that could trigger fear.
Hear me as I hear the Lord: the Lord is with you. As you face the vicissitudes of life, the Lord is with you. As you face the battles of life, the Lord is with you. As you face the same challenges that may have reduced others, the Lord is with you. As you navigate through the troubled waters of this life, the Lord is with you. As you confront the adversaries that stand against you, the Lord is with you. The presence of the Lord is with you in your journey.
Notice that when Jesus made way for the Holy Spirit to become our comforter, we moved from having God with us to having God in us. Hear me as I hear the Lord: because the Lord lives in you, you will fear no evil. You will walk through the waters and you will not be drowned. You will walk through the fire and you will not be burned. You will walk through what reduced others and it will not reduce or extinguish your destiny.
Welcome to that season where you will not fear the fear of others. Welcome to that season where the presence of God will conquer every fear in you.
