DIVINELY EXEMPTED

SCRIPTURE READING: 2 KINGS 11: 1-17

FOCUS: “But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.” (2 Kings 11: 2)

MEMORY VERSE: “Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.” (Psalm 124: 7)

It is instructive to observe that whereas Athaliah set out to destroy the entire seed royal, Joash was not killed along with the rest. There was a plan to wipe out every son of the royal family, but Joash was not wiped out. There was a plan to destroy the people who had potentials to be king, but Joash was not destroyed. There was a plan to waste the lives of the sons of the King, but Joash was not wasted. Joash was exempted from evil.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: no matter the wickedness that is scheduled to hit everyone around you, you are exempted. You are exempted from every disaster. You are exempted from every arrow of the enemy. You are exempted from every untimely death. You are exempted from every tragedy that is lurking around. You are exempted from every disaster. You are exempted from the same health issues that consumed others.

Joash did not even have capacity to save himself; he did not have capacity to defend himself; he did not have capacity to escape from the tragedy that befell others; he did not even play a role in being exempted, but he was exempted anyways. Hear me as I hear the Lord: your testimony will be that without any effort on your part, the Lord made sure to exempt you from disaster. When the Athaliah’s hit, you will not be hit.

Jesus did not save you so that you can be a victim of any Athaliah. Jesus did not rescue you so that you can be swallowed by those who imagine that your life is in their hands. Jesus did not redeem you so that you will end up in the trap of the wicked. No matter what goes wrong around you, you will be exempted. When others are cast down, you will be exempted. When others suffer misfortune, you will be exempted.

When others say they have been trapped, your story will be that you escaped. When others say they have been hit, your testimony will be that you were divinely exempted.
