YOU ARE MORE

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 SAMUEL 17: 1-53

FOCUS: “Goliath stood and shouted at the Israelites, “What are you doing there, lined up for battle? I am a Philistine, you slaves of Saul! Choose one of your men to fight me.” (1 Samuel 17: 8 GNB)

MEMORY VERSE: “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:” (Ephesians 2: 6)

In our Focal Scripture, Goliath addressed the armies of Israel as slaves of Saul. These were men who came to the battlefield to gain victory, but he gave them an identity as slaves of Saul. Amongst the men at the battle field were David’s brothers, who were clearly not slaves. Goliath tried to give them an identity that was demeaning. He tried to make them feel less, rather than more. He tried to remind them that they were less.

Friend, you are not a slave. You are not what the enemy says you are. You are not that sick person that the doctor says you are. You are not the loser that your environment says you are. You are not the victim that the world says you are. You are not the insignificant person that your haters say you are. You are not the empty handed fellow that the economy says you are. You are clearly not the slave that your Goliath says you are.

People who came to the army to fight for the victory of their nation, were being called slaves by the same man that held them spellbound for forty days with empty speeches. These were the same men who chased after the Philistines when Goliath came down. Hear this: the words of the enemy are geared towards making you feel less and making you see yourself as less. Whatever the enemy is saying to you, is to make you feel lower.

When David would eventually show up, he challenged Goliath for defying the armies of the living God. So, the men whom Goliath called slaves, were part of the armies of the living God. The opinions of the Goliath’s of this world do not change who you truly are. The negative assessment of your haters, do not diminish the greatness that God already planted in you. You will not suddenly become less because someone says so.

You are not what the Goliath’s of this world say you are. You are who God says you are.
