DON’T GIVE UP

Devotional

SCRIPTURE READING: LUKE 8: 41-56

FOCUS: “While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.” (Luke 8: 49)

MEMORY VERSE: “By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:” (Psalm 65: 5)

Our Focal Scripture captures that moment when someone came from the house of Jairus and mentioned that his daughter had died, and that he should no longer trouble Jesus. The person who came from the house of Jairus, told him not to bother the Master anymore. The person who came from Jairus’ house, suggested that there was no need to still believe Jesus. The person who came from Jairus’ house suggested that he should give up.

Friend, even if it seems that all hope is lost, don’t give up. Still believe God even when the reality suggests that you should give up. Still believe God even when it seems that your challenges are irreversible. Still believe Jesus even when it seems that your complications are irredeemable. Still believe Jesus even when everyone feels there is no need to still believe. Don’t give up because someone says to give up. Still believe.

The report from the home of Jairus was that there was no need to trouble the Master, but the Master Himself came nonetheless and raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead. When it seemed that there was nothing else to hope for, Jesus Himself showed up and did the unbelievable. It may appear that there is no hope, but Jesus is poised to turn everything around. It may seem that giving up makes sense, but a miracle is lurking.

Death ordinarily has a tone of finality, but it was not final enough for Jesus not to turn it around. The situation in the home of Jairus had gone beyond human redemption, but divine redemption came calling and turned it around. Even if there is no hope for human redemption, trust God for divine redemption. Trust God to do what no man can do. Believe God even if your situation is extreme. Believe God even in dead situations.

The same Jesus that turned up and turned around the situation of death in the home of Jairus, will show up to turn around every dead situation around you. Don’t lose hope, don’t lose faith, only believe.
