SCRIPTURE READING: LUKE 15: 11-32
FOCUS: “And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:” (Luke 15: 29)
MEMORY VERSE: “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.” (1 Chronicles 4: 10)
In our Focal Scripture, the elder brother of the prodigal son protested that his father had never given him a kid (small goat) to celebrate with his friends. He deemed himself worthy of a celebration requiring a small, baby goat. He was with the father but didn’t consider himself worthy of the fatted calf that was killed to herald the return of the prodigal son. He judged himself too poorly. He thought himself too lowly than he should have.
Friend, it is an error to serve a God who possesses plenty and still be desiring crumbs. It is an error to be with the Father and only seek to have small portions. You are not doing God a favour by desiring less instead of more. You are not doing God a favour by seeking small results when He can make mega results to become your portion. You are not doing well if you won’t ask God to make mighty things happen in your life.
In a house where there was a fatted calf kept aside for future celebrations, all that the elder brother deemed himself worthy of, was a kid. In a place where he could have more, he desired less. Be intentional to desire more rather than less. Be intentional to ask God for portions that reflect His greatness and might. Be intentional to desire more like Jabez did. Be intentional to seek more territories, more influence, more results, etc.
Do away with every mentality that says you could settle for less. It is okay to be content with less at some point, but never settle for less. Never stop seeking for more. Never stop desiring more heights. Never stop desiring more results. Never stop desiring more influence. Never stop desiring more relevance. Never stop desiring more resources. Never stop desiring more blessings from God. Why ask for a kid when there is a fatted calf?
You do God no favour by asking for less when you can ask for more. Change and upgrade your mentality. Don’t be caught in the kid’s mentality.
