SCRIPTURE READING: 1 SAMUEL 17: 1-53
FOCUS: “And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.” (1 Samuel 17: 8)
MEMORY VERSE: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18: 21)
In the battle between the armies of Israel and the Philistine army, Goliath led the conversation. He demanded that one person be brought forth to fight with him. Ordinarily, in battles between nations, soldiers simply faced one another and slugged it out. Goliath brought a suggestion that was to make the battle about one man versus one man. He spoke and had Israel react. He controlled the narrative and led Israel to react.
Friend, if you allow the enemy to lead the conversation in your life, you may end up just reacting to what he has already said. If you make the mistake of allowing the Devil to speak before you speak, you may end up in a rat race of just replying to what he has said, rather than say what you want to see. If you give a chance to your ‘Goliath’ to keep speaking, he will definitely speak words that will cause you to accept defeat in battle.
As Goliath continued to speak his boastful words to Saul and all Israel, they were all in fear, and none dared to reply. The words of Goliath birthed fear, and soldiers who ordinarily were brave enough to come to the battlefield, were suddenly unwilling to fight. If you keep listening to the words the enemy speaks to you, it will breed fear, and it will cripple your capacity to take action. The words of the enemy will cripple your faith.
Next time, take the lead in speaking words of faith against the operations of the enemy. Pass decrees against the arrows of the enemy. Speak against the evil thoughts that the enemy is sending to your mind. Speak against the satanic devices that are unleashed against you. Speak against the gates of hell that have arisen against you. Speak against every voice of the enemy that is speaking against your life and future.
Never allow the enemy to have the final word concerning you. Don’t allow the words of the enemy prevail over you.
