SCRIPTURE READING: MATTHEW 2: 1-18

FOCUS: “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2: 11)

MEMORY VERSE: “Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.” (2 Corinthians 5: 16)

When the wise men got into the house where Jesus was, they fell down and worshipped him. Jesus was a baby at the time, but the wise men had enough wisdom to see more than just a baby. They saw a king in him despite His being a baby in the eyes of men. They saw and treated Him as a king even when they saw no throne or crown around Him. They gave Him the king’s treatment even when babies were ordinarily not deserving of such.

Friend, wise men see kings where others see babies. Wise men bow to worship even when they are yet to see a throne or crown. Wise men give honour to those who are yet to have thrones or crowns. Wise men see beyond the low estate of kings and see them for who they are yet to become or the potentials they carry within them. Wise men realize that kings may first appear as babies before rising into the greatness destined for them.

At a time when people in Israel were yet to understand what God was up to, the wise men were already bowing in worship to Jesus. They already realized that a king had been born, they discerned the birth of the new King even when all that others saw was a baby. Don’t wait for everyone to discern that a king has been birthed before you see a king where others see babies. Don’t wait for a ‘baby’ to grow before you see the king in them.

There is a generation that waits to see a throne and a crown before bestowing honour on a king; there is a generation that waits to see enough reasons before showing honour to a king. Don’t be counted amongst them that insist on seeing a throne and a crown before honour is bestowed. Don’t be counted amongst those who do not show honour until they see signs or paraphernalia of greatness or kingship.

May heaven cause you to be that wise one that sees kings where others see babies. May your eyes be open to discern kings before others do same.
