SCRIPTURE READING: LUKE 18: 1-8
FOCUS: “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” (Luke 18: 1)
MEMORY VERSE: “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5: 17)
Our Focal Scripture speaks of that moment when Jesus, through a parable, taught His disciples to always pray, and not faint. He taught them to pray and never be discouraged. He taught them to pray and never give up. He taught them to pray, and keep praying, regardless of circumstances. He taught them to pray and never lose hope. He taught them to pray and not stop praying. He taught them to pray and not get tired of praying.Friend, never get tired of praying. Never lose hope in your prayers. Never lose hope in the God who does not store prayers but answers them. Never lose faith in your communion with God. Never come to a point where you will need to indulge the enemy with faithlessness when you should have faith in God. Never allow the enemy to convince you to abandon prayers. Never stop knocking on the doors of heaven for answers. One of the inferences in Jesus’ parable, was the principle of never giving up. Jesus, through this parable, taught His disciples the principle of importunity. As you pray, be ready to not take no for an answer. Keep praying even if you have not seen the results you seek. Keep praying even if everything has not aligned yet. Keep praying even if you are still seeing evidence to the contrary. Keep praying even if you are empty handed. In saying that men ought to pray and not faint, Jesus seemed to infer the reality of ‘fainting’ after praying for a while. Jesus inferred the reality that one could give up after praying for a while. Jesus inferred that in the course of prayer, one could get discouraged. Hear me again: no matter how discouraged you feel, never give up on prayer, and never give up on God. That voice that says you should give up on prayers, is not of God.I pray for you: may God give you the grace to continue praying without ceasing. May God give you the courage to continue praying even when you have reasons to give up.
