SCRIPTURE READING: JOHN 6: 1-14
FOCUS: “Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.” (John 6: 7)
MEMORY VERSE: “I have sent you to reap a harvest in a field where you did not work; others worked there, and you profit from their work.” (John 4: 38 GNB)
Our Focal Scripture makes mention of that moment when Philip told Jesus that two hundred penny-worth of bread would not be sufficient to feed the multitude. In the milieu in which these events happened in Israel, two hundred pennies were a full year wage for peasants, and were also a half year wage for the upper class. So, by Philip’s assertion, wages were not going to solve this particular problem of feeding the multitude.
Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: what you cannot get by wages, the favour of God will deliver it. What you could not achieve by your wages, high favour will make it happen. What your earned resources cannot help you attain, El Roi will cause it to come your way by the arrangement of heaven. What your earnings cannot solve for you, God will make arrangements that will solve it. God will give you what your wages cannot afford.
Notice that the two hundred pennies were the wages of one person for half a year, or for a full year, depending on the cadre; but the assignment at hand was to feed a multitude. What was to be done was way beyond the mere wages for one person. There comes a time when the responsibilities of one person will exceed what can be legitimately earned. I pray for you: may God step in to help you solve what your wages cannot solve.
If you depend only on wages, you may never be able to feed a multitude. If you depend only on wages, there are levels you will never attain. If you depend only on wages, you will never be able to rise above your earning capacity and what it can help you make happen. Hear me as I hear the Lord: in this season, receive divine help that will take you beyond your wages. Receive the help of God that positions a man above his earnings.
Welcome to that season where El Roi will give you more than what you can give to yourself. Welcome to that season where favour will deliver to you what mere earnings will not provide.
