SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 23: 1-6
FOCUS: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23: 1)
MEMORY VERSE: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29: 11)
In our Focal Scripture, the psalmist declared that the Lord is his shepherd and that he shall not want. In bible times, shepherds led their sheep into pasture. The sheep found pasture, by simply following the shepherd. It was not necessarily a hunt by the sheep for pasture; it was primarily a following of the leading of the shepherd which led to pasture for the sheep. Sheep were sure of pasture once they dutifully followed the shepherd.
Friend, you may struggle to find pasture if you do not follow the leading of the Shepherd. You may struggle to find your portion if you do not intentionally allow yourself to be led by God Himself. You may need to take personal responsibility for your pasture if you do not allow the Lord to take the lead in your life. You may be stuck in the place of fixing your destiny with your own hands if you fail to allow heaven to show you the way.
You may have prayed for pasture before now, but just maybe you now need to ask the Lord to help you to follow Him. There are pastures you will not get by seeking pastures but by following the Lord. Shepherds in bible times understood that they needed to feed their sheep, and no matter where they passed without pasture, they had a commitment to show pasture to the sheep. God is committed to showing you your pasture if you follow Him.
When the Lord leads you, you may come to places where there is no pasture, and all you will have to do is to trust the shepherd to lead you out of there and into your green pasture. When the Shepherd leads, He has a commitment to ensure that there is pasture for the sheep. When the Shepherd leads, He has a commitment to lead the sheep to pasture that would nourish it. When the Shepherd leads, He ensures that there is pasture.
Don’t be focused on pasture. Focus on the shepherd who is able to bring you to your pasture, no matter how the terrain is.
