SCRIPTURE READING: MATTHEW 2: 1-18

FOCUS: “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2: 11)

MEMORY VERSE: “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” (Proverbs 18: 16)

When the wise men came to the house where Jesus was, they worshipped Him and they gave Him gifts. They were coming to see the one who had been born King of the Jews, and they came with gifts. The prostrated before Jesus, they came with an attitude of honour. Their idea of honour was expressive; and apart from expressing it by their posture of prostrating, they also gave gifts to Him. They gave gifts of value to the King they came to see.

Friend, the wisdom of the wise recommends that if you ever have a king in your life, be intentional to give them gifts. In the spirit of Jesus’ birth, identify the kings around you and give them gifts. Identify the men that bear rule around you and give them value. Identify the men that are deserving of honour around you and be intentional with a posture that befits the honour you have for them. Let your honour be expressive.

There is a generation that believes that once you see a king, the first thing to do is to take from them. There is a generation that believes that when you see a king, you should maintain same posture as them. You are not being wise if all you want to do is to stand in the same posture as the king you ought to honour. You are making a mistake if all you want is to take from kings without giving to them. You should be first to give to kings.

Did you notice that nothing much was said about other people who may have visited Jesus at His birth, but there was copious mention of the wise men who came from the east to visit Him? Those who gave nothing were not mentioned! Those who offered nothing to the king were not recorded! Those who offer nothing will easily be forgotten. Those who give nothing may not be remembered. To give nothing is not wisdom at all.

Be that wise one that can discern and give gifts to kings. Don’t let your honour for any king be verbal only. Follow up with good gifts.
