SCRIPTURE READING: MATTHEW 1: 18-25
FOCUS: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1: 21)
MEMORY VERSE: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18: 21)
In our Focal Scripture, the Angel of the Lord told Joseph that Mary would bring forth a son, and that he should call His name Jesus. Joseph was not responsible for the pregnancy of Mary, but he was to take responsibility to give a name to the son that would eventually be born by Mary. He didn’t create the situation that was about to come forth, but it was his responsibility to give the situation an identity. He named his result.
Friend, even when you did not create a situation, don’t allow the situation to give itself an identity. Name your situations. Give an identity to whatever comes your way. Don’t let the devil trick you into calling every seemingly bad situation a misfortune; be prophetic to call it the fire that will make you come forth as gold. Give your situation an identity that is tied to the results you seek to derive from it. Give your situation a positive identity.
You would be tempted to give your situation a bad name because of how it turned up on you. Sometimes, your environment and the people therein would teach you how to give negative names to your situation: don’t fall for it. Don’t fall for that temptation to give every situation the same negative name that everyone has given it. Don’t allow your negative experiences to force you to give negative names.
Joseph was to call the son that was to be birthed by Mary, by the name of Jesus, because He was to save His people from their sins. His name was tied to the result that was to come through Him. Always remember that whatever name you give a situation must be tied to the result you want to bring forth through the situation. Whatever identity you want to give to circumstances must be related to the results you want them to produce.
Don’t be a prophet against your own self. Speak life to your situations. Give a positive identity to every situation even when you did not create them.
