SCRIPTURE READING: LUKE 1: 5-25, 57-66

FOCUS: “And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.” (Luke 1: 16)

MEMORY VERSE: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” (Ecclesiastes 3: 1)

In our Focal Scripture, the Angel of the Lord announced to Zachariah what the Lord was about to make happen through the life of the child he was about to bear. The Angel announced that John would fulfill the agenda of turning the children of Israel to their God. God was not just giving Zachariah a child that would fulfill the dreams of both parents. He was giving them a child that will fulfill heaven’s purpose. There was a purpose of heaven attached to what God was bringing their way.

Friend, as God brings you results and blessings that would ordinarily make you shout for joy, discern the purpose of heaven for bringing you such results and blessings. Discern the purpose of God for whatever He brings your way. Discern the purpose of God for the doors He opens for you. Discern the purpose of God for the opportunities He brings your way. Discern the purpose of God for the testimonies that have become your portion. Discern God’s purpose for every provision or elevation.

Those who do not know heaven’s purpose for their provision will end up mismanaging and misappropriating heaven’s provision. Those who do not know God’s agenda for what He brought to them will end up casting pearls to dogs. Those who are not discerning enough to know the ‘why’ of God’s provision, elevation, help, open doors, destiny placement, etc. will end up treating heaven’s opportunity carelessly and unwisely.

Whatever El Roi has brought your way or will yet bring your way, do well to discern why He made it possible. Discern the reason for whatever capacity that God has bestowed on you. Discern the reason for the doors He opened for you. Discern heaven’s purpose for your children. Discern heaven’s purpose for every flow of grace and favour from heaven in your direction. Discern God’s intent for your ‘John’ and follow through it.

May it never be said that God gave a ‘John’ to you but you diverted your ‘John’ for mundane use without deference to divine purpose.
