SCRIPTURE READING: 1 KINGS 18: 40-46

FOCUS: “And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.” (1 Kings 18: 40)

MEMORY VERSE: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6: 33)

Our Focal Scripture speaks of the moment when Elijah ordered that the prophets of Baal be killed. Baal worship was one major evil that characterized the reign of Ahab. Baal, among other things, was known as the sun god. So, Baal worshippers worshipped the sun as it rose each day. Notice that it was God Himself that created the sun. So, Baal worship created a system where people worshipped what was created instead of the Creator.

Friend, you might be the latest Baal worshipper if you have begun to pay more attention on the created rather than the Creator. You just might be setting up the Baal system in your life if you focus more on things that God created more than you focus on God Himself. You might have become a Baal worshipper if you care more about what you get rather than what God gets. Baal gets you more interested in your life, rather than the Zoe life.

As men worshipped Baal, they simply elevated the created above the Creator. They became more obsessed with things rather than God. If you are noticing the pattern of being more interested in mere things rather than God, then you just might have become a modern-day prophet of Baal. If what you want to achieve gets you obsessed, more than what God desires from you, what’s the difference between you and Baal prophets?

Today, I pray for you: every obsession with the created that makes you lose sight of the Creator, let it be broken by fire. I command every distracting mindset that wants you to focus on things more than you focus on God, to be broken. I command every mindset that wants you to bow to things rather than bowing to God, to be broken. I command every love for things that has exceeded the love for God, to be broken. I break every siege of Baal.

May it never be said that you grew to become a Baal prophet. May it never be said that you grew to become that man that was more obsessed with creation more than the Creator.
