SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 23: 1-6
FOCUS: “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” (Psalm 23: 5)
MEMORY VERSE: “Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.” (Ecclesiastes 9: 8)
In our Focal Scripture, the psalmist made mention of how the Lord anoints his head with oil, and his cup overflows. According to the psalmist, there is first an anointing that comes on his head, and the next thing that happens is that his cup begins to overflow. The overflow of the cup was first a function of the oil on the head. The overflow of the psalmist was orchestrated by the anointing that came on his head.
Friend, when God anoints your head with oil, He is getting your cup ready for an overflow. The oil is symbolic of the anointing and power of God; the oil is symbolic of the Spirit of God. When there is a fresh release of the Spirit of God upon you, it activates a new season of increase on your life. When God baptizes you afresh with His Spirit, He is simply seeking to alter the dynamics of your cup so that it can enjoy an overflow.
Notice that the psalmist did not speak of how he prayed for an overflow on his cup; he spoke of how his head was anointed with oil, and his cup overflowed. God is committed to your overflow, and that is why He sets up the oil on your head so that it can be a system of overflow for your cup. When the oil of God comes on your head afresh, it comes with the energy of the Spirit to engineer a fresh overflow beyond your capacity and capabilities.
Whenever your cup is running empty, check if there is still oil on your head. Whenever dryness is taking over in your life, check the flow of the Spirit of God in you and the oil of God on your life. When your cup that was once full begins to run empty, check the supply of the supernatural which you may be missing out on in the place of fellowship with God. You really cannot have your cup perpetually full if your head perpetually lacks oil.
No matter what it takes, ensure that your head never lacks oil from God. Ensure that your inner man never lacks the freshness of the Spirit of God. If there be oil on your head, there definitely will be an overflow on your cup.
