SCRIPTURE READING: LUKE 8: 26-39
FOCUS: “Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” (Luke 8: 35)
MEMORY VERSE: “Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.” (Isaiah 56: 5)
When those who came to behold the works of Jesus in the life of the demon possessed man turned up, they saw the demon possessed man clothed. In bible times, clothes were symbolic and indicative of identity. This man had been possessed by a legion of demons. He had an identity of legions, but Jesus turned his life around and he was clothed, symbolizing a new identity. He was disconnected from the identity of the legion of demons.
Friend, be intentional to embrace your identity in Christ. You are who God says you are. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are the express image of God on earth. You are the sheep of His pasture. You are a holder of the keys of the kingdom. You are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. You are a joint heir with Christ. You are a son of God. You are empowered by the Holy Ghost in your inner man.
Notice that the man whom we are speaking of, was earlier described as a man who had devils for a long time and wore no clothes. He was described as one who dwelt in tombs. He was described by the works of the devil that had crystallized in him. Jesus intervened, and he was no longer without clothes. Reject every identity that speaks of what you have been through. Reject every identity that stems from the works of the devil in you.
When you show what the enemy has done to you as your identity, you give him room to do more. Your experience may not be all you desire to see, but insist on declaring the right identity you have received in Christ. Your disappointment is not who you are. Your mistake is not who you are. Your failure is not who you are. The misfortune that came your way is not who you are. The medical report you got is not who you are.
Embrace your identity in Christ, and reject every identity that is a product of what the enemy has done in you. Reject every identity that is inconsistent with the finished work of Christ. If God did not say it concerning you, don’t let the enemy enforce it in you.
